It’s getting rough out there. Not long ago we told you about no-good criminals in Snohomish County targeting funeral mourners, with police describing an M.O. that includes scanning the obituaries looking for potential victims. Now comes King 5 News with a story about thieves in the Redmond area (and perhaps beyond) targeting moviegoers, breaking into cars parked in movie theater parking lots to steal the vehicle registration – and then using the address information listed on that registration to find empty houses to burglarize.Though no estimate or real information was given as to how many times something like this has actually happened, King 5 still warns that police “believe thieves may be targeting people they see heading inside a theater.”To illustrate this alarming possibility, King 5 spoke with Debbie Van Wierigan, who says her car and home were burglarized Saturday night while her family was out at the movies. Thieves allegedly broke into her car to nab the vehicle registration, and then headed to her home to nab some precious jewelry while they knew she was goneVan Wierigan tells King 5:”The police knew right away, they asked us for our registration and as soon as we said it was gone they said we’re sending police to your house,” said Debbie Van Wierigan. And …”I had my original wedding set it was an antique gold and it’s beautiful, and I was going to have it reset and it’s missing so it must have been taken. It was an heirloom, it was 35 years ago,” said Debbie.Sounds like a pretty rock solid case. And surely a trend worth fretting over. The good news is, not all was lost. “I decided I’m not going to let those guys ruin my Easter,” said Debbie.Thank god.
