Magik Markers

Wednesday, October 10

For a band who has spent years exploring noisy, sonic extremities and deconstructing their music into messy fragments, Magik Markers have set a new mark on their latest, Lee Ranaldo-produced full-length, Boss. While there’s still plenty of shrill discordance and electronic experimentation found within the folds of the record, what makes it so dissimilar from their past recordings is the fact that this is the first time the band has put together a set of cohesively structured songs. Melancholic piano ballads? Linear post-punk trudging? Yes and yes! Elisa Ambrogio’s singeing sing-speak and erratically taut guitar parts shine through in this format, lending drummer/multi-instrumentalist Peter Nolan a chance to really showcase everything he is capable of. Magik Markers are always keen to try new things on the road, so be sure to expect the unexpected tonight.
