Day 2 Continued:Noah and the WhaleFolk-pop outfit Noah and the Whale’s set at the UTR party was soft, sweet and a more than a bit fey, with a pixie-ish whispy blonde backup singer and a frontman with ruffled tuxedo pants, a quiter, less bouncy Bell and Sebastian. Following Fleet Foxes set (which was incredibly tight, with spot on four part harmonies- and my first time hearing their new arrangement of Mykonos since they’d left on tour) Pennsylvania’s akron/family drew a packed room and delivered, absolutely slayed it, with two very shirtless percussionists, running through a good bit of their 2007 release Love is Simple, with mysterious, but satiating tones and full, noodle-y riffs eliciting a raucous response from the crowd. We took off as the Helio Sequence boys were loading in after a frustrating encounter with the multitude of tude-toting load-in police and, after slamming down half of a delicious Torchy’s chicken burrito, weaved our way through bodies, traffic and barricades over to what seemed like one of ten Emo’s locations in the city for the Brooklyn Vegan party.LA-based Clipd Beaks were mid-way through their set upon arrival, dressed in Vice-tastic gear and vomiting out one of the loudest sets I saw at the festival- thrashing around, belting out unintelligible lyrics, heavy base lines topped with hissy, crashing symbols and distorted guitars while the Brooklyn Vegan himself looked on from the back of the room. More to follow. . .
