Rebecca Cummins spent two months last summer in Shenzhen, China, shooting at the sky. From a single spot, she turned her camera upward and took photos at six-hour intervals, starting at 6 a.m. The result, 60 Days in Shenzhen, now fills two walls at the UW’s Jacob Lawrence Gallery. Each day is captured in a vertical line of four photographs, the prints cut into circles. It was monsoon season, and on a few days there is no discernible difference between dawn, dusk, and noon—the daytime shots are a succession of flat gray. Time may not be passing at all. It’s an unusual tack, on the other side of the globe, to capture a view unrecognizable as foreign. UW Campus, Art Building, first floor, 685-1805. Tues.–Sat. Free. Ends Feb. 7.
