Toronto photographer Tania Kitchell was born in rural Saskatchewan, so maybe that’s why she’s so fascinated with cold weather. Whatever the reason, in the show “Low Pressure,” Kitchell conducts little experiment-performances in chilly conditions and records the results in fleeting, ephemeral photographs. The nearly abstract images of Kitchell’s breath steam and a few fluttering snowflakes caught briefly against the night sky (including Air No. 2, above), have a distinctly Zen quiet to them. Less effective are the humdrum self-portraits of Kitchell making piles of snowballs. Kitchell also keeps meticulous records of her time spent outdoors, and these haikulike weather observations are transferred into blocks of text etched into Plexiglas. The whole project has a sweet, quiet serenity to it, reminiscent of a little Björk ballad. James Harris Gallery, 309A Third Ave., 206-903-6220. 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tues.-Sat.
