Michael Montoure

Ringing in the witching hour old-school style

The lost art of storytelling makes a comeback all over town tonight, as you don’t just have the opportunity to hear punk war stories (i.e. Henry Rollins at the Moore) but also two hours of seasonally-appropriate horror stories, courtesy of local writer Michael Montoure. He’s read at the now-defunct Aurafice café, and has recently published his first anthology, Counting From Ten and Other Horror Stories. Montoure’s spare, striking prose outlines characters in deliciously twisted predicaments, like a tattoo artist who’s lost control of his hands, and whose new “automatic” work style turns lethal. The only thing missing tonight will be the campfire and the flashlight—though maybe you can still be comforted by a warm cup of cider.
