Three years after its 1962 opening, Crystal Mountain hosted the U.S. Alpine Ski Championships, attracting the attention of many famous skiers like Karl Schranz, Jimmie Heuga, and Billy Kidd. Since then it has stayed on top, providing skiers with nine chair lifts as well as the state’s only high-speed gondola, which makes regular trips to the summit. For those who wish to extend their alpine stay, Crystal Mountain offers several hotels and two restaurants. The mountain is also open through the summer for visitors who wish to take their dog for a walk along the numerous trails or go for a gondola ride to the summit.
