Lawyerpalooza!

What’s the difference between a lawyer and a vulture? The lawyer gets frequent flyer miles. What happens when you give a bunch of attorneys electric guitars, drum kits, amps, and mics, and put them onstage? The sixth annual Lawyerpalooza! The competitive event features bands formed by rival law firms (including the very punk rock Lane Powell PC, the Goth mopers from Perkins Coie, and disco-crazed Karr Tuttle Campbell, to name but a few), all with the good clause—I mean cause!—of raising money for elementary school music programs. “Contrary to what might be assumed, the idea did not spring out of a long and tedious document production,” says co-founder Mike Nesterhoff. “It was hatched when several of us got together at Lane Powell to form a band and thought that other firms in town might also have bands—so why not get them together and show another side of lawyers? From that it gestated into a battle of the law-firm bands.” Judges for the evening include P-I critic Gene Stout and TV commentator Anne Bremner, who will bestow the much-coveted “Golden Palooza” award. Legal advice may cost extra—meaning extra drinks for the bands. Showbox at the Market, 1426 First Ave., 628-3151. www.showboxonline.com. $20. 21 and over. 5:30 p.m. AJA PECKNOLD
