Published on December 05, 2007

While Georgetown’s full evolution into a destination neighborhood seems to be perpetually in flux, certain flagship businesses are easily identifiable as future institutions. The punk-minded pioneers behind Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery make the comic-lovers’ goldmine a prime example of this sense of founders’ pride. Tonight they celebrate their first anniversary with help from cartoonists Jim Woodring, Ellen Forney, Jim Blanchard, and a rag-tag band of musicians performing what they’ve dubbed “The Tom Price Desert Classic.” Ringleader Price is best known as a former guitarist for the U-Men, Monkeywrench, and Gas Huffer, so expect an old-school psychobilly blowout with the added bonus of a special 20% discount on the store’s colorful line of cutting-edge, locally produced books.
