Spectrum Dance Theater Open Rehearsal

Sandra Kurtz

Published on August 10, 2005

When Donald Byrd remakes a classic dance, he doesn't just tinker with the costumes. His Sleeping Beauty Notebook is as far from Petipa or Disney as it can be: Beauty's birthday party is in a brothel, and the prince is the one to fall asleep. Byrd's work can be as high-voltage as it is imaginative, so these open rehearsals are a great chance to see lightning strike. Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., 206-325-4161. $5. 6:30 p.m. Wed. Aug. 17.
